- Americana Foundation (a charitable foundation which awards grants of up to one million dollars a year for issues involving land preservation and municipal planning). Past President and attorney for the Foundation. Currently, Member of the Board of Directors.
- Environmental Law and Policy Center, Chicago (public interest law firm involved in land use and environmental issues throughout the Midwest). Litigation Advisor, past Board Member.
- Michigan Sea Grant Advisory Committee (Sea Grant is a collaboration between the University of Michigan and Michigan State University, which in turn collaborates with other universities throughout the U.S. on water and related environmental issues). Member, Board of Advisors.
- Emmet County Lakeshore Association a citizen’s organization established in 1971 involved with environmental matters, Lake Michigan and land use issues in Emmet County, which collaborates with Emmet County and Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council). President of the Board.
- Michigan Historic Preservation Network (a non-profit organization which, among other activities, serves as a qualified entity to hold and monitor historic preservation easements in Michigan). Represented MHPN in establishing historic preservation easements to help preserve historic structures, and to protect property listed on the National Register of Historic Places threatened by nearby development, and have lectured on Historic Preservation Law at an MHPN conference.
- Michigan Environmental Council (a non-profit organization involved in land use and environmental protection issues at the legislative level in Lansing, MI and Washington, D.C.). Former President of Council.
